Danielle's grocery bag costume
Costume type: | Costumes for Girls |
Category: |
This homemade costume for girls entered our 2014 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Robin, the 'Bag of Groceries' costume creator:
My daughter Danielle is wearing the costume. Danielle wanted a costume good enough for a chance to win her school's costume contest. My husband told her how he had been a grocery bag for halloween as a kid and won a contest, so she of course wanted to be one too. We didn't have pics of his costume so we just used a local grocery stores bag for inspiration.
Materials;
Box, brown packaging paper, hot glue, glue stick, packing tape, elastic for straps, dragon back scissors, grocery bag for letters and recycled food packaging. Cost was under $5.
Instructions:
Measure kids shoulder to arm length, cut straps and attach to box with hot glue. Wrap box in brown paper, cut to fit and then make creases in bag on sides before using tape and hot glue to secure to box. Cut 3" wide straps, and fold over to 1", fold creases for Handles, attach to bag with hot glue. Cut letters from grocery bag and apply to bag with glue stick. Cut top of bag with dragon back scissors to give serrated look on top edge of the bag, add food packaging to top rim of box with hot glue. Add small, lightweight packages to straps with hot glue.
Everyone loved it! People were surprised how realistic the bag looked.
