This homemade costume for boys entered our 2015 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Tina, the 'Hiccup the Dragon Trainer' costume creator:

My son Kian loves "how to train your dragon" series and decided to be Hiccup this year, so I made him the armor from scratch using blackboard fabric as armor and helmet and faux leather for the inner layer. All the pieces are hand sewed including belt and hand made wooden knife. it took 3 weeks to be made and my son loves it! Hope you all like it too!:)

what did you use as a pattern? My grandson wants to be this character and asked me to make him one. This costume looks elaborate and great. Could you advise on how to make it - like a tutorial? or pictures on how to make it?

Hi, thanks for your msg. I didn't follow any pattern but tailor-made this costume for my son. there're lots of details based on lots of characters' images downloaded from google and i didn't record the making process either (i shouldve). I'll try to recall my memories and post online soon. do you have email address? i can send some photos of process to you if you want.

Did you happen to post the instructions? Your version of this costume is beautiful

Hi! Absolutely wonderful work! :D
I am making the same costume, how did you finish off your faux leather? I am finding it very difficult to sew (for the brown under suit). How did you make your edges look so nice?
