A word from Angela, the 'Mad Hatter' costume creator:
I tried to mimic Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter. Majority of the costume was put together with the items I had in my house: my husband's work shirt, a jacket that I had for years, socks that are mismatched, the belt for the sash, along with the spools of thread, the fabric around my neck and around the hat and my gloves. Not to mention I had the silver tea set in my garage, so I just used it as a prop. I did purchase the pants and the shoes from my local Good will. I teased my own hair and used colored hairspray to make it orange. I picked up the halloween makeup from my local Walmart for the white face, but used my eyeshadow to make the deatils in the cheekbones and nose, etc. I picked up a very thin orange feather boa to glue on for the eyebrows. I picked up some lace curtains on clearance to sew onto the cuffs of my jacket. I used yarn to attach the spools of thread onto the belt that I used as my sash. I also used left over ribbons and pinned them to the inside of my jacket pocket so they wouldn't blow out when I walked. I bought the hat on ebay. The total cost for this costume was about $50. The hat on ebay was $20, the clothes from Good Will ran about $17, the curtains were about $7 and the remainder was the white makeup, baby powder to make it a matte finish, and the craft boa.
