A word from Beth, the 'Pumpkin Head' costume creator:
My 6 year old son asked to be a pumpkin head for Halloween. I decided on a type of paper mache to make the head. I used an old phone book and dictionary torn into strips. For the shape I covered a mixing bowl in plastic wrap and started layering the strips (which I painted with a water/wood glue mix).many layers and days later it dried. I then did the second half the same way. I duct taped them together then papered over the tape. After everything was dry I used wire cutters,a sharp knife and scissors to cut out the neck hole and face
the stem is a thin wire poked through the top that i wrapped in the paper/glue mix.
the paint was a mix of spray paint and acrylic paint I had in the house.
the gloves are a mismatched black pair from our winter gear. I cut the fingers off and hot glued the claw fingertips in. (Found those at goodwill for 1.50$) then I spray painted them with a black and gray
the Cape came from goodwill 2$ & the actual robe was an adult size also from goodwill for 4$ I cut down to fit adding the torn edges. He absolutely loved his costume and I couldn't have been happier! It was fun Maki it and seeing him enjoy wearing it :)
