Tamitoa (SHINY CRAB) from Moana
Costume type: | Costumes for Babies |
Category: |
This homemade costume for babies entered our 2018 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from David, the 'Tamatoa from Moana' costume creator:
My almost 3 year old son LUKE is wearing the costume. This was a family project that we created because my son really wanted to be Tamatoa the crab from Disney's Moana.
I tried to buy a little as possible to do this project, and to re-use materials I already had at home.
I created the chest piece and the claws out of eva foam
(kids foam floor mats) I traced the shapes I wanted onto the smooth part and cut it out with an exacto knife or sharp scissors.
I used hot glue to connect all the shapes. Spray painted the pieces blue, then orange for detail.
The crab shell was made out of foam also. Random objects found around the house were glued on top of the foam tile. We spray painted it gold and added shiny stuff to make it "pop"
My wife cut the arms off of a shirt and sewed the ends shut. Then stuffed the arms and sewed them on the lower part of the shirt.
Total dollar amount spent would be about 15.00 That was mostly spray paint of a certain color I did not have already. Not sure how many hours went into the costume but it was all worth it to see his face.
It was a fun project and we will continue to make them as a family!
