Category: |
This homemade costume for women entered our 2015 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Elizabeth, the 'Flo from Progressive Insurance' costume creator:
I got the idea from the progressive commercials. I wanted to be something that was current in pop-culture, but not political or controversial; something fun and that people would respond to. And respond they did. People really got a kick out of Flo and had fun interacting with her.
I made everything on the costume (well I didn't sew the clothes).
Apron - White apron and I printed out the logo on the computer and traced it on with pencil then painted it with craft paint.
Headband - I used the same craft paint to paint a white headband I found at a craft store.
Name tag/button - I made the button stencil in Microsoft Word and then printed it out in a light grey/black and then used markers to color it in. I glued them onto cardboard and glued pins on the back of each.
Box - I wanted a "Purse" for my costume, to hold my phone, money, etc. I used a small cardboard box. I taped it all together with packing tape. I used a box cutter to open up the top (the box originally opened from the front like a book). I cut the edges to make the flaps open and close. I used Microsoft word to create the front and sides of the box, printed them in light grey & black ad colored it in with markers. I also colored a solid bottom piece in orange. I glued a long ribbon on the box then glued/taped the pages on the front/sides/bottom...and bam... multi-purpose costume prop!
Makeup - black eyeliner & red lipstick
Clothes - White polo shirt and white pants, both from a thrift shop.
