This homemade costume for boys entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Amanda, the 'Red Box Kiosk' costume creator:
My step-son Geno has a fascination with mechanical things, such as robots, cars, and vending machines. Geno has autism which makes verbal communication difficult for him. I told him at the store to pick out a Halloween costume, but Geno did not care for any of them. As we left the store I told Geno to think about what he wanted to be for Halloween then he pointed at the Red Box movie kiosk at the store entrance.
I found a nice size box that Geno can moved around in, cut out the bottom and holes for his head and arms, and spray painted it red. I hand painted on a computer screen and four DVD covers on the front with acrylics. My husband and I choose two movies we like, Black Swan and Bridesmaids. And, Geno choose Thor and Cars 2. The last step was covering up the cardboard edges with reflective silver duct tape for night visibility.
