A word from Samantha, the 'Little Shop of Horrors Audrey II' costume creator:
My daughter is wearing a homemade Audrey II costume. Every year we try to come up with something different from what others are wearing. After watching the movie, Little Shop of Horrors, my daughter decided this would be her costume. We started with a yoga ball! I wrapped it in plastic and did paper-mache around half at a time. My daughter helped with every step of the costume, I should mention. We then purchased items from a dollar store - laundry basket, leaves, shower curtain, stockings, cosmetic sponges, etc. We then built straps into the basket so it would be comfortable and cut a giant hole in the bottom for her to stand it. The basket was covered with the shower curtain and spray painted a terra cotta color. After the yoga ball halves dried, I painted them with my airbrush. The bottom half was then glued(another hole cut into bottom half of the plant head) onto the basket. We did use a poster board ring around the top of the laundry basket to sit the head on. We glued leaves and moss anywhere we thought it would look good. The inside of the top half was fitted with a toy cowboy hat from the dollar store. She wears the top half of the costume. We also airbrushed a pair of tights purple so that she could make her arms into a tongue to ask for candy! Even with our busy schedule - it took about 8 hours to complete and is VERY light weight. I was surprised. Last year she was a automated fortune teller and it was heavy - so we wanted to avoid that this year.
