A word from Bethany, the 'Tater Sack' costume creator:
Our Tater Sack here is Bryson Dale! We found the idea on Pinterest. This costume cost a wopping $6. It doesn't get any better than that! You can find the tutorial there! But just for a quick idea we used a cream colored cotton fabric and let it set in a bowl of water and tea bags to stain the fabric to make it look rustic (cinnamon and coffee work too!) We then let the fabric hang dry. I sewed this in a pillowcase dress type pattern, so if you can't find the Tater Sack tutorial a pillowcase dress tutorial would work. You only need to add a strip on elastic to the bottom to give it a more round puffy look. I painted the letters on using stencils and brown craft paint from walmart. For the potatoes I used pantie hose. Any brand will do but I just used the 50. ones that comes in the quarter machine type containers. you can cut the pantie hose in sections (the legs) about 4-5 inches. However you's like depending on the size of spuds you want. you then sew one end and stuff and then sew the last open end cutting off the excess. I then hand threaded a needle with brown thread though out the potato depending on where and how many eyes (dimples) you want and pull tight finishing with a knot. For his hat I just hand stitched (gluing would work as well) some of the potatoes on a brown togie we found at Walmart.
We hope you enjoy viewing our Tater Sack!
