A word from Dawn, the 'Cat and Mouse' costume creator:
I wanted to costume class and had to come up with a costume for both myself and my horse. I decided on a Cat and Mouse. First I bought two and a half yards of grey felt and made a horse sheet to cover the back and sides of my horse, Ditto. Next I purchased a grey lycra horse hood to cover the head and neck. The nose of the mouse is pink felt cut to cover the horses muzzle and attached with velcro under his nose and to sides of bridle. The ears where made from a styrofoam ball cut in half and covered with pink felt for inner ears, and grey felt for outer ears. Using a flat bendable piece of wire, attached both ears and then wired to top of bridle. For legs, used grey polo wraps. Mouse tail, I took an eight foot length of of felt and sewed sides together and then filled with stuffing and sewed end shut. I then attached to back of saddle. My costume was a leopard pant suit with a black slinky shirt with feathers attached to sleeves. Mask was a black half mask with ears attached. This costume took about two weeks to construct and cost was about $75.00. It is rather difficult to come up with a costume for a horse, as it is a large animal and a lot to cover. Then it is another feat to be able to ride a horse in costume. It was a real challenge to come up with an idea for both horse and rider that coinsides. It was a real experience and a lot of fun.
