Nerdy Kitty Costume

My kitten Dill is three months old and simply loves to play. One of his favorite things to play with is my laptop as I'm trying to do homework. Because he is constantly sprawling out on my laptop, I got the idea to make him a nerd for Halloween. The costume is mostly homemade and costed me about $15-$20 (not including my computer as a prop). First I bought a bow tie at a pet store which costed me about $5, which I tightened with a safety pin in order to fit my kitten. Then I made the "pants" out of plaid material which I found at a craft store on sale. I simply cut out the fabric after measuring my cat and then attached velcro to the ends in order to quickly get it on him. I then sewed on two strips of sequin elastic ribbon to the pants and attached them to the bow tie with safety pins for the suspenders. Lastly, I made the hat which was made out of a child's foam eyepatch that I also got at a craft store. Because the eyepatch had elastic already on it I simply just tightened the elastic to fit my kittens head. I then used sparkly foam material from the craft store and cut it out to look like the spinny part of a hat. I attached the purple material to the eyepatch using a gold brad also bought at the craft store. Lastly I painted the hat in order to bring the whole costume together and make it look more nerdy. I'd say the hardest part of the costume was getting my crazy kitten to keep it on, but after a few treats he seemed to love the attention that he got in the costume.
