A word from Susan, the 'Lil' Scarecrow' costume creator:
I made this costume for my 4 year old daughter. She wanted to be a scarecrow, so I bought some old jeans and shirt from a thrift store. I used rafia, pillow stuffing (for inside of shirt), burlap (for hood), felt, a hot glue gun, a straw hat, a sunflower (so everyone would know she was a girl),thin rope, a pair of black gloves, and leggings. I glued the rafia to strips of felt and then hot glued the strips to the insides of the jeans (at bottom), the cuffs of the shirt (so none of the rafia touched her skin), and also to the bottom of the shirt (which I cut a jagged pattern around the bottom).I added pillow stuffing to the inside of shirt and hot glued large rectangles of felt over the stuffing to keep in place. I sewed a hood out of burlap and hot glued it to the inside of the straw hat. I used the scraps of felt to make patches on the jeans and then used rope to tie around the bottom of legs and arms. I was very pleased with the way it turned out and she loved it!
