A word from Justin, the '2020 Happens' costume creator:
Family picture of me, my wife, and our son. The idea came from us wanting to represent some of the biggest names and items of 2020, a year we all will never forget (even though we may want to). I’m a roll of toilet paper and my wife, a can of Lysol to hit on two of the most used and out-of-stock items this year. Our son is a cute little Dr. Fauci, who quickly became one of the most recognizable figures in our country, if not the world in 2020.
The TP costume was made from forming a cardboard box into a rounded set of shoulder pads that you slide into over your head. Two embroidery hoops were used on the ends to help hold the cardboard open for your arms to slide through. Some bubble wrap and thin shipping foam sheets were then used for the toilet paper effect. A sharpie highlighted the “sheets” of toilet paper.
The Lysol can was formed by the use of an all blue dress, with the labels printed and attached to the front. A poster board hat was made to look similar to the cap of the spray can.
For Dr. Fauci, we started with hair spray of silver and gray that was done inside a bathtub (working with a 5 year old here). Once it was dry, we dressed him in a suit with tie, and then combed his hair to part it similar to the real Dr. Fauci. A pair of kids bluelight glasses completed the look.
