A word from Kathy, the 'Aphrodite' costume creator:
I wanted to do something out of the ordinary. Greek mythology is really intresting. I spent $50.00 on my costume. I recycled by using alot of materials from my recycling bin. For the sea shell I made a mold with two round sleds, then used paper mâché, paint, glue and material. I make the dove out of styrofoam left over from a toy I had purchased and feather and other crafts materials I have in my craft cupboad. I used pins for the eyes and pipe cleaners for the feet and beak. I designed and made my dress from empty milk jugs, paper mâché, material and hot glue also using ribbon and yarn. For the water, back drop and seaweed and shells I used plastic table cloths, glue, mateial and strofoam pieces. For the shoes I used a pair of flip flop and ribbon. I made the staff with a piece of door left over, glut and material and ribbons. It turned out very well. These pictures are of my wearing my costume. It wa alot of fun to make.
