A word from Kris, the 'Aquarium' costume creator:
My son has always come up with creative Halloween costumes. Being a non-crafty mom, this has always been a challenge for me, but I have gotten pretty good with a glue gun! This year my fish obsessed son decided he wanted to be an aquarium. It took some time to figure out how to pull this off without spending too much money. For the “table” part of the costume. I covered a large cardboard box with wood grain contact paper I found at the dollar store. I also bought a stack on soap dish that I used to hold an empty jar of fish food. I hot glued the jar onto the soap dish. We used a fish net we had at home. I cut a hole in the top of the box for his head, and holes on each side for his arms. I covered the top of the box with dark sparkly gray card stock. Cost of the bottom part was $5. For the aquarium part I went to thrift stores and found frames with plastic instead of glass fronts. I cut the plastic to the size I needed and hot glued the pieces together. I used black electrical tape around the boarders. I then hot glued the “aquarium” to the cardboard box. I hot glued aquarium decorations we had around the house to the gray card stock. The background was cut from a dollar store tablecloth. I bought two clip on lights from the dollar store and clipped th to the sides to light up the aquarium. My son found the fish hat at a store for $5. Total cost of the costume was around $26.
