A word from Liz, the 'Baby Roman Soldier' costume creator:
I work for a company that has a daycare inside of our building. Each year the daycare puts on a Pumpkin Parade of Halloween costumes for all of the kiddos. It was our son Demetrius II’s first time participating as he is 11 months old. We got the idea for the costume off Pinterest (and I believe this site) of an older toddler as a Roman soldier. The original costume showed a little boy standing. Our son is not walking yet and standing for the long period of the parade route would not have been an option. We purchased a radio flyer trike and built the chariot around it. We spray painted thin sheet metal and tied it to the trike with zip ties, and used cutters to cut it down so that it would be below the handle bars on the trike. We then took red felt and used a hot glue gun to glue thin peices to the edges at the top to guard against the sharpness of the sheet metal. We purchased leather tassel ribbon from hobby lobby to hot glue on the edges, and then painted some flat decorative wood peices gold and hot glued them to the front. We bout an inexpensive horse on wheels from Walmart and zip tied the legs to the chariot. We took a dog leash and put it around the horses neck to pull the chariot. The trike had a small storage compartment in the back so we used it to put a speaker in and played music from 300 as he was being pulled in the parade. My mom made his actual costume by hand and also me a Roman goddess costume to match with his since I would be walking with him along the parade route.
