A word from Melanie, the 'Bank Robbers and Money Bag' costume creator:
I love having costumes that are different and making things, so each year we try to think a little outside the box and do a family theme that is fun and recognizable. This year, we decided to be a bank robbing family. Kingston, our son, is our ultimate score, a bag of loot from the heist! We had so much fun and everyone seemed to love our theme. For our costumes, we used some things we had around the house that I altered and I made some masks from foam board and elastic. For the bag of money, I used a burlap type bag and cut holes in the bottom for his legs, reinforced the edges with some stitching and stuffed the inside with Stuffing to resemble a full bag. I used the same foam board as our masks to make a money symbol, glued it and fancied it up with gold metallic paint. I did this on both the front and back of the bag. I used paper money and cut and glued to different lengths and layered to create the effect of it coming from the top of the bag and sealed it with the original strap from the bag I had cut off. Finally, I used a string to tie around the bag to create the effect of it being a closed off bag with money spilling from the top. It took a while to find the supplies and to figure out exactly what and how to do it, but in the end, we had a blast!
