A word from Liza, the 'Bee Family' costume creator:
I really need to give the credit to my husband on this one. He came up with the idea to do a family themed costume. The idea came about from some searches that my husband did online. The girls (twins) costumes were easier to put together and we bought and got out of the way.
The bee hive took us a little bit longer. It was made out of copper pipe insulators that were purchased at home depot. The base took 13 tubes and my hat we probably ended up using 2 different ones so a total of 15. Each tube was taped together, then we hot glued them together with gorilla glue sticks. My husband then spray painted the hive and my hat with one can of spray paint. The straps were pieces of burlap bought from Joann Fabric. The bees were made out of 2 pom poms glued together with a pipe cleaner to look like antenna’s.
My husband’s costume was a Tyvek suit, with a hat and mosquito net and bees that we glued onto it. The overall cost was about $85-$90 for all 4 costumes and took us a little under a week to put together, but probably only actually put 10-15 hours in.
