Benny, the Cab Driver Costume

My name is Emilia Gonzales, and I am the creator and am wearing the Benny costume. Benny is the cab driver from the movie Halloweentown, and is a fantastic driver for the town even with being a skeleton with no eyeballs. He’s a beloved character from my childhood memories of watching that movie every Halloween and I wanted to see what it would be like to be him. Making the mask for Benny, I used liquid latex and flour mixed together to sculpt the skull look. I used acrylic nails pressed into the latex mixture for his teeth. After the mask dried I painted it with cream paints using mainly white and yellow for an aged bone look and some gray for the shading. When applying the mask to my face I put a base of water activated black paint for any part of skin that would be exposed around the mask and used liquid latex for my adhesive when applying the mask. Unfortunately I didn’t have a cab to pose in for my picture but I made sure to still get a picture of old Benny behind the wheel again, waiting to save Halloweentown!
