This homemade costume for boys entered our 2018 Halloween Costume Contest.

Here is my latest creation. Son wanted to be a scorpion for Halloween! No pattern here, it was impossible to find anything online for direction, so I just improvised! I used black stretchy fabric for the body/legs and tail. Sewed panels of the stretchy fabric to the front of a long sleeved black cotton t shirt. Under the panels, I stuffed fiber fill to give the look of body "segments." I also filled the legs with fiber fill and tied fishing line around them every few inches to create the segments in the legs. I attached the first pair of legs to the arms of the shirt with fishing line as well as next few pairs so that when my son lifts his arms, all the pair raise up as well, rather than just flopping next to his sides. For the scorpion tail, I sewed segments of black stretchy material filled with fiber fill, but left a small channel in the middle of each of them to feed a wire through to allow me to bend it into a curved shape. Pincers were sewn and filled with fiber fill, and black stretchy gloves were hot glued to the backside of each pincher. I took a black winter hat and glued 3 pairs of black "eyes" to the front of the hat.
