A word from Nicole, the 'Broken Marionette Doll' costume creator:
My 10 year old daughter Gianna is wearing our version of a broken Marionette doll. She came up with the idea on her own and I brought it to life for her. We got the dress that came with 2 red bow clips at a thrift store for $10. It was marketed as a creepy clown dress but with a few additional accessories and some work, it turned out perfect! The head piece and strings were homemade and were almost all bought at the Dollar Tree but could be found at any store really- ball of yarn for the strings ($1), 2 tan colored cloth headbands (6 pack for $1), 2 wooden dowls (pack of 20 for $1), 1 hard headband that matched her hair ($1). I bought a single cigar for the clear plastic tube it came in at the gas station ($3). I cut and sewed the tan headbands to make 2 elbow bands and 2 wrist bands. I took the hard headband and hot glued the clear cigar tube to it. While that dried, I hot glued the dowls in an X. I then wrapped some string around the middle of the X. I then got glued it to the top of the cigar tube. Once assembled, I tied and glued a string to each dowl down to the corresponding wrist/elbow bands, making sure to leave extra slack. All that was left was her make-up- which were all things I already had. Total cost all together was $27 dollars and about an hour or so of time to put it all together. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out!
