A word from Heather, the 'Bursting at the Seam' costume creator:
The idea of this costume came from how we feel about Halloween. We get so excited in my family every year that my son has now caught the fever and asked me if I'm "bursting at the seams with excitement" for Halloween. My family look forward to the big reveal of each persons costumes, so when I revealed, I confirmed that I am indeed bursting with excitement, and unzipped my face and flapped open the skin to reveal my skeleton jaw. Other families out trick-or-treating stopped us to photograph with me for my costume.
I made this entirely of liquid latex poured out into a sheet, and a zipper. I used latex to adhere the skin cut and fitted skin flaps to the zipper, then to the outline of my face. Some recycled 'paint by numbers' kits came in handy for matching the mask to my skin, and black and white eyeliner pencils were used to draw the boney appearance for skeleton jaw. Total time and cost, 1 hour, $15.
