A word from Frances, the 'California Rolls' costume creator:
My kids' are wearing my homemade California Rolls. I made it by zip-tying a collapsible laundry hamper. Then covering the whole thing in white felt. I cut up foam into the shapes of avocado, cucumber, and crab salad. I painted the foam pieces with acrylic paint and hot glued the pieces onto black felt (to look the seaweed). I made two sides for each California Roll. I also cut up rice foam shapes and hot glue gunned the pieces around the white felt. Afterwards, I glued orange pom poms in between the spaces of the rice foam. My husband cut an opening on the top and bottom to fit the kids in. We finished the costume by safety pinning straps to the top so the costume wouldn't fall down during events.
I made their trick-or-treat bag with a black drawstring bag, red felt sewed on, and the Kikkoman soy sauce logo. I had a friend use her Cricut machine and found a soy sauce template to iron on. I found the template from https://www.pistachiosandsoy.com/home/soy-sauce-and-sushi-halloween-costume
For my daughter, I made a ginger, wasabi, and seaweed headband to go along with California Roll costume according to this site -
