A word from Lela, the 'Candy Land Miss Mint and Lollipop Princess' costume creator:
Started out with the twins Jacklyn and Alayah wanting a costume pertaining to Candy Land,so I looked around on the internet and got the idea to use twisty balloons (260's). This was an experience, took me a few times of trial and error getting the right size and the balloons popping once in a while. After many hours of practice I got it to all come together, you have to weave the balloons together one at a time kinda like tying knots so if one balloon pops the whole dress will not pop since they are all individually tied off. Once I started to make the costumes a few days before Halloween it took about twelve hours for each. I estimate it took about 80 balloons for each costume. I decorated Alayah's dress the Lollipop Princess with lollipops, ribbons, bows and for her wings in back of dress used lighted balloons, for her shoes used pink duck tape and bows, made a hat out of lollipops and ribbon, made a lollipop wand and toy lollipop princess from the game Candy Land also used a pink tutu and decorated it with lollipops and green ribbon, she also had striped tights. Jacklyn was Miss Mint, I used peppermint candys, candy canes, white and red ribbons and a bow for the dress, for the hat I used a gramaphone and backwards visor hat covered in pink and white scarf, the shoes were red tape with bows, the shirt was made with a white shirt and red masking tape and she wore red tights, also made a candy cane axe with a candy cane yard ornament. The rest of the outfits was stuff I found around the house.Lots of tape and glue gun.The night of Halloween we went to the North West Arkansas mall for a costume contest. we got such a great reaction from people, and many photo shots. We ended up getting 2nd place for the 7-9 age group. We have made this our annual fun time to create a costume and the girls love it, plus making great memories.
