This homemade costume for men entered our 2012 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Don, the 'Captain Jack Sparrow' costume creator:

I've always been a big fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean and customized a theatrical quality costume of Captain Jack Sparrow to celebrate Halloween 2012.

I braided the wig with real stone silver and gold beads, and an old key.
I was going to New York City for the parade and used an old NYC subway token for the coin on Jack's head. A reproduction sword, pistol that shoots caps, a compass and some shiny rings completed the accessories.

Captain Jack has two braids on his chin and I cut off some of the wig to make the braids. Then I added a couple of silver beads attached with copper wire and used a hot glue gun to firmly attach the braids to my own whiskers. I gave myself a month to grow a nice goatee and mustache to complete the look. I wanted to add some wear and tear on the coat and used a black marker to add contrast around the buttons and seams. I shredded the edges of the collar, sleeves and tail. I added some dashes of spray paint on the bottom frayed edges as well.

Too bad my plans for the NYC Halloween parade did not happen due to the damage done by hurricane Sandy. It's been almost two weeks without power for some people and it is starting to get cold here in New York. I hope it gets fixed soon for them.

The Halloween parade was cancelled, but Webster Hall in NYC re-scheduled it's annual after party for Nov 10, so I went this weekend. I had the time of my life and got many kind words and compliments on the costume. Just walking out of Penn Station at least 5 people asked to take a pic with me and I got a lot of smiles and Ahoys! It was a great welcome to New York. The reception at the club was even better and it was fun to talk like a pirate with everyone. Every skalliywag was avasted most heartily!!! Cheers to all me mates I met!
