Carnival Carousel Costume

My son loves carousels and came to me with the idea to make a carousel costume. The turquoise base is a lampshade that I spray painted. I decorated it with round mirrors, doilies, and ribbon. The top and bottom outer rings are made with insulation foam that I got from Home Depot. I covered them in gold vinyl. I bought some plastic animals from the craft store and drilled a hole through them. I put wooden dowels through the center of the animals. All of the animals are decorated with jewels, ribbons, stickers, and saddles made of clay. The hardest part was the red and white canopy on the top. It is made out equally size triangles of faux leather. There is a trim around the top that has battery powered lights that turn on from the inside. This costume was so fun to make and the reactions were awesome! Carousels bring such happiness to people and I feel like the costume got the same reaction.
