A word from Jessica, the 'Maleficent' costume creator:
This is my 3 yr old daughter wearing her handmade Maleficent costume. The horns and staff are made from cardboard, paper mache, and then painted with craft paint. The orb was is a plastic christmas ornament that I simply painted the inside of. I bought balloon led lights to put inside and made it glow. The crow was purchased at michaels and I painted on the face then attached to the orb. To get the actual headpiece on, I had to paper mache around the horns to make a cap shape. I let it dry, then hot glued a toddler graduation cap inside. I had to rip of the square part of the cap before glueing it in but you might have figured that out. I cut up some black leggings to cover her face and the base of the cap. The collar was made from two pieces of craft foam cut to shape. Then jewelery wire was glued to the edges to allow it to shape better. It was covered in purple fabric and spikes made from foam were attached to the collar. Now for her dress. It was cut to form the shape of Maleficents dress. All the fabric was added where needed. Most of it was hot glued together and some parts were hand sewn. Ribbon was added along parts of the dress as well as wrapped around the horns. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the way it turned out. My daughter looks adorable!
