A word from Kate, the 'Catching a Wave' costume creator:
My 10 year old daughter wanted to look like she was boogie boarding on a wave for Halloween this year. I cut a hole for her body in a cheap boogie board with a jigsaw. I attached a pool noodle to the back part of the hole so it would fit snugly and stay up without straps. Her old leggings are stuffed with two segments of pool noodles. I ran a wire through them so the legs are bendable. I filled them out with fiberfill I pilfered from an old costume. The aqua socks are from Amazon. (They are not glued so she can wear them again.) I built a frame for the wave from dress boning and wire and sewed a cover from sequin dot fabric. The wave is attached to the board with hot glue. I sewed ruffles from sheer "sea-like" fabric and hot glued them to the side and curl of the wave. I then added strips of tulle and sequin dot fabric to mimic falling water. I pulled fishing line through the lip of the wave and attached it to the underside of the board to hold the wave up a bit. For the ocean skirt, I ran elastic through a few yards of sequin dot fabric and then used a staple gun to attach it to the underside of the board. My daughter is wearing a black top with a zip-up rash guard over it.
