Cemetery Stone Angel Statue Costume

My daughter came to me months before Halloween wanting to create this costume. She came up with the idea and wanted to bring it to life. I was hesitant because of all of the pieces and I didn’t know if we could make it look like one cohesive costume.

We made the smock type dress out of curtain fabric to give it volume. We then used aerosol fabric paint to paint the wig, dress, and body suit. Then we used acrylic paints to streak the dress, wig, and body suit so it would appear weathered. I used foam insulation board and cut out the wing shape. I the cut each individual feather with craft foam and sprayed the entire wings with gray primer. I then used stone speckle spray paint to give it a stone look. We then mounted the wings so they would be fanned out and used a strong wire and bent it over her shoulders so it could be removed easily. I then used gray face paint and eyeliner to create cracks in her face.

Overall, we were happy with the way it turned out. It was quite the process, but in the end, the costume that she wanted came to life. She received all kinds of comments everywhere we went!
