Chicken Costume

Meet our 1 year old Chicken Mr. Branson Tyler! He loves chickens and "chicken" was basically his first word! I had seen alot of chicken costumes online but wanted to take my craft skills and put my own spin on it!
I bought all of my supplies from Walmart for around $15! Other than his orange tights which I ordered off Ebay for $3! I started with a trip to Walmart buying (#1)2 yards white fleece. (#2)1 yard of orange fleece. (#3)Single pieces of black and red felt for the eyes and mouth. (#4)A cheap pillow for stuffing. (#5)Velcro. (#6) 2 boas of white feathers. (#5) A white onesie.

I started buy making the body suit like a basic pillow case dress. There are tons of tutorials on pillow case dresses on Pinterest! Except instead of using 2 layers I used 4. 2 for the front and 2 for the back, for stuffing purposes! I also went up a size bigger for my pattern because after you stuff it it will be a bit snug. I them sewed together, leaving to bottoms open to stuff. I then cut the pillow and used the stuffing to stuff them and sewed the bottom last. Next I rapped the boa around the body suit starting at the back of the neck and hand stitched or tacking the feather boa on as I went around. For his hat I used a hat pattern from Pinterest and used white fleece for sewing and Velcro to hold the chin strap in place and drew my own pattern for the eyes and beak. the eyes were 2 circles of black felt and I drew a triangle out for the beak and sewed it from the orange fleece and stuffed it. For his comb and wattle (gobbler) I just hand drew and cut a single piece from the red felt and hot glued them on. For the feet I drew my own pattern as well. Tracing a pair of his shoes and making the chicken foot a bit bigger with 3 toes out of the orange fleece. I then stuffed them a bit and added a strap with Velcro for it to strap around his ankles.
