A word from Kate, the 'Conspiracy Theory Guy spies Alien Abduction' costume creator:
My son wanted to be abducted by aliens for Halloween. We found a similar costume online, but it wasn't built the same way. For this one, I used two umbrellas and two 3/4" dowels. I used spray foam insulation to hold the dowels in place on the top umbrella. Once dry, I cut holes in the bottom umbrella and slid it over the dowels so that it lined up with the top. I glued them together with some super strong glue I bought at Joanns. I spray painted the umbrellas silver and painted the dowels matte black. The cockpit is an acrylic chip bowl from party city. It is too heavy, but I couldn't find anything lighter. The aliens are similar to bath toys. We purchased the set on Amazon. I cut a cardboard circle and glued down some spray paint caps for chairs and attached the aliens with hot glue (my son helped). I glued the whole cockpit to the top umbrella with that super strong glue. I glued a small string of green fairy lights around the perimeter of the bowl. There were some gaps, so I used 1/2" sticky weather stripping to cover them. I also put the same weather stripping around the hemisphere where the two umbrellas meet. I then added these super cool strip lights from Amazon that have a remote. I hid the battery pack under the gap between the cockpit and umbrella (hidden by the weather stripping). I used party fringe attached to a strip of cardboard to look like the beam of light. I added 5 more sets of fairy lights to the bottom of the space ship, right above my son's head. The costume is held on with a child's posture brace. My husband got his T-shirt on Amazon and we made a tin foil hat.
