Unicorn Costume

I start every costume creation by finding an example that is done often, but not to an extreme level. I saw that the only unicorn costumes online were baggy store bought suits or a horn duct taped to someone's forehead. I knew I could do better.

It started last November with the foam carving. You begin by gluing sheets of home insulation foam together with clamps and gorilla glue. Wire can be added to give additional reinforcement. Then take expanding construction foam to add in the non-geometric structures. Time for the multistage carving process.

Begin with crude shaping using a hot wire tool that can be bought online or be fabricated with the wire from a blow drier connected to a car battery charger. Then move to the electric carving knife, dremel tool, sand paper, and spackle for smoothing.

Use spray adhesive to attach the fabric using care to stretch out the wrinkles.

The rest is a mess of wigs, fiber optic hair extensions, a fanny pack, self sewn furry cuffs, and a spandex suit.

Confetti launchers mount in the nose and canned air shoots a cloud out when it "snorts".

Last but not least... airbrushed abs.
