A word from Tara, the 'Headless Surgeon' costume creator:
My son Tyler is wearing the costume. He wanted something creative and scary and wants to be a doctor someday, and here we are with this costume. I got a thin contact precaution gown (I actually got 2 but only used the arms from the 2nd one) and hot glued the arms onto the 1st one and stuffed them with grocery bags and glued surgical gloves (that were filled with spray insulation) to 2 of the arms. We made a wide board with slats in it to run a belt through to adjust the height. The top of the board was as high as his head. We took cardboard shipping tubes and pvc pipes and fashioned shoulders and a neck and covered the shoulders with bubble wrap to give a smoother look. For the neck we took small plastic tubing and painted it red and had it sticking up through the neck piece and then filled it with spray insulation and painted it flesh-toned (this turned out very cool and scary). We cut a X shape in the middle of the gown and cut the back and bottom out of a clear plastic pretzel container from Sam's. I put a ripped cotton shirt piece around the edges and found a recipe for homemade blood and dropped some around the edges. For trick or treat night we lined the lid with green glow necklaces (hot glued) and it gave the appearance that the head was floating in a weird green fluid.
