A word from Holly, the 'John Deere Tractor Farmer' costume creator:

This is my son. He is obsessed with all tractors but more specifically John Deere. I asked what he wanted to be for Halloween & he said a tractor. Thinking I could buy a cute tractor I said no problem. There was only 1 costume that was available for store purchase. I was so disappointed. I did a little research & decided to try & make one. I thought it would be easy peasy but I soon found out it was harder than anticipated. So a couple of cardboard boxes, some spray paint & a little imagination, I came up with a cute John Deere Tractor & my son as the farmer. The tires are all painted cardboard cake plates. I had to reinforce the body of the box with another box hot glued inside & some small wood blocks @ each corner to keep its shape. I used touch lights for the "headlights" & red reflectors for the break lights. The yellow stripe is from decorators ducktape. I bought green peel & stick letters for the John Deere name & the smoke stack is a paper towel roll & a half of a small Dixie cup painted metallic silver. The John Deere logos & slow moving sign were printed onto matte photo paper, cut to size & then laminated & cut to size again. They were hot glued on. I assembled the two boxes together with hot glue & after dried poked holes & used 4 bolts & nuts to hold together. I had easy access as the front of smaller box opened from the front. They were boxes I had laying around the house. Again, the front opened so I could get the candy out that was dropped thru the smoke stack with a hole cut out on top of main box. I used parachute cord tied in a slip knots for the straps (any type of cord can be used).
