A word from Olivia, the 'Lela Teen Beach Movie' costume creator:

Ariahna Cottingham (my 6 year old daughter) is wearing her favorite character from "Teen Beach Movie." After the movie aired and she watched it for the first time she said at that point that she wanted to dress up as "the pink biker Lela". I originally thought ok, I will just find the costume in stores and purchase it....wrong! Everywhere I looked the costume was either sold out or said it wouldn't be available for purchase until February 2014! So I began trying to find any item possible for the costume. Eventually I came across a Coral pink faux leather jacket on Ebay. It cost about $25 but luckily that was the most pricey piece I bought. I used light pink cheer shorts, a light pink tank top, and panty hose that we already had at home (they were originally bought at Wal-mart) to wear under her coat. She also wore a white long sleeve shirt under her tank top Halloween night because it was chilly out. Her boots (which we already had at home as well) were originally black and spray painted pink. I got thick black ribbon and glued jewels onto it for her belt and attached the belt at the ends with velcro. I bought a $3 flower necklace at Wal-Mart for the infamous "Lela" friendship necklace. I also added a chain with some of the ribbon laced through it and attached it to her jacket with safety pins. I also had a hair clip that matched perfectly with her jacket and clipped it to the collar. To top off the entire look I straightened her hair and fixed it like Lela's and added a black headband. All in all, the costume total came to about $30-$35. It may be a little more than some costumes out there but it was definitely original and the kids loved it! Little girls were attached to her and her "Lela" look. I think we did the best "Lela" impression we could especially when my daughter was singing Lela's solo she had in "Crusin for a Brusin"!
