A word from Laura, the 'Miller High Life Beer Can' costume creator:

My Husband, Doug, is wearing the Miller High Life Beer Can costume. Miller High Life Beer is my husbands favorite beer and I got the idea from the packaging. For my husbands costume, I used two wild bird seed bags, gold spray paint, cardboard, pencil, acrylic paints, tin foil, some tape, a hole punch, safety pins, heavy ribbon, black marker and light gauge wire. The inside of the bird seed bags were white so I took out the stitching and cut them open to lay flat. I then used a cardboard box as a template/stencil by first drawing out the words "High Life" and then cutting the letters out with an x-acto knife. I then taped the cardboard stencil to the bag and used more tape on the bags to avoid those areas I did not want to be painted gold. My husband then spray painted the bags gold. For the rest of the lettering on the Beer can, I freehand penciled and then painted with matching acrylic paints. I then removed the tape along the boarder of the words and painted it green to match the can. I used a black marker to make the bar code on the back of the can and cut out a logo from a case and attached it to the back also. I then used a hole punch along the top and bottom of the bags and finally threaded the light gauge wire through the holes while measuring it around my husband. He made the pull tab out of cardboard and tin foil, then attached it to one of his ball caps. We used a heavy ribbon to make the shoulder straps and attached them with safety pins. Since my costume was the matching Miller Witch, we made a crescent moon out of cardboard and spray painted it gold. I changed into my costume and sat in front of the moon on a stool with a pint and can of miller to pose for the photo that we later attached to the beer can costume to look just like a real can of Miller High Life. I would guess that the total cost to make this costume was under $5 for the gold spray paint can. The rest of the materials we used were either recycled or we had laying around. I had a lot of fun making this costume and it was a big hit at our annual Halloween party that we host every year. The only suggestion I have if I were to make the beer can costume again, would be to prime the material first with white spray paint and then do all the rest of the painting from there. The bird seed bag material was not ideal for the acrylic paint and it was starting to chip off before it was worn.
