A word from Shannon, the 'Headless Marie Antoinette' costume creator:
I was inspired to Headless Marie Antoinette after I saw a photo of a similar costume put together by Nicole Magnes a few years ago.
The dress was made out of a nightgown and lacy bedskirt I found a thrift store, which we placed over a backless mannequin that I bought and painted with blue, purple, green and grey acrylic paints. The was taped was attached to a backpack I also picked up at a thrift store.
I had an old petticoat under the dress to give it more form, and sewed a stuffed opera glove onto the left shoulder to cradle my head. I wore the other glove on my arm to give myself some mobility.
I used a combination of red nail polish and theatrical blood to make the blood stains.
The overall cost of the actual costume was around $50. The supplies to do my hair added a little to that, as I have never before done any sort of intricate up-do.
