A word from Kasey, the 'Kool-Aid Man' costume creator:
With lots of research on the perfect costume for my 3 year old son Adric, I finally came up with the idea of the Kool-Aid man.
We bought a large ball at Walmart and covered it with papier-mâché. I used about 7 layers. We then cut out wholes big enough for his body and arms. I though about painting it red, but was afraid the lines from the paper would show through, so I simply took and old red t-shirt, turned it inside out and put it over. I glued the bottom of the t-shirt up inside and lined the arm holes of the t-shirt up with the arm holes we cut out. I used black felt to cut out the face shapes and hot glued them on. The spout is made out of cardboard and covered in the same red t-shirt. I just cut some extra off the t-shirt and used the extra material to cover the spout and the handle. I then hot glued the spout on. The handle is made out of an old towel hanger we had. Just reshaped it to look like a pitcher handle, covered it in the red material and drilled two small holes for the handle to go through the body to attach it.
It didn't cost me much to make this costume and we got lots of compliments on it. We simply dressed him in all red and the t-shirt pretty much held it in place on him, but we did use suspenders to secure it more to him.
