A word from Pamela, the 'Miss Argentina from Beetlejuice' costume creator:
I'm a child of the 80's so I was looking for a creative costume based on a character from my childhood and came up with this idea! Little did I know, it's actually not as obscure of a costume as I had originally thought. I could have bought a "Miss Dead Receptionist" costume online but I wanted to do this right and put it together myself from scratch!
The dress: I bought the dress on ebay for $8.00 but it was an XS so I had to completely take it apart and make it something that I could be comfortable in. This was my first time sewing so I did it all by hand!
The cape: This was THE most difficult part of the entire costume (aside from the 4 hours of body paint). I bought three types of wire from Joann Fabrics and formed the wire in the shape of the collar portion of the cape. Then I hot glued the wire together and hot glued some sparkly tulle that I also bought at Joann Fabrics. Then, I took some additional fabric and sewed it to the bottom of the collar.
The wig: There isn't an updo wig out there (trust me, I looked!). So, I found a bright red cosplay wig online and cut it to just below my shoulders. I then took the pieces that I cut off and rolled them up and pinned them to the wig to form an undo. It stayed all night and looked great! I had to trim the bangs a bit too.
The body paint: I researched SO many body paints and ended up going with Mehron Paradise Paint in Teal. It's a water-activated paint that you can hardly feel when it's on. This took 4 hours to apply but that could just be because I'm a perfectionist and painted my ENTIRE body!
To finish the costume off right, I bought a Handbook for the Recently Deceased book online and made the sash with some white satin ribbon and iron on letters.
This was a very time consuming costume but it was totally worth it!!
