A word from Heather, the 'Brutus the Buckeye' costume creator:
My daughter Abigail who is 12 years old is wearing the costume. It is Brutus the Buckeye which she had asked me to be last year at the last minute, I told her we didn't have time to get it together but would do it next year, and she held me to it! The cost was around $100-$115 between materials and outfit. I useded a helmet for the base and then I pieced soft foam around it side to side in smaller to larger circles then back to smaller like a loaf of bread to make the oval shape. Then I draped the brown fabric but left the from center out for the mouth so that I could use that as an opening to see through. Then I made two layers for the face, one with the eyes and styrofoam for the mouth and then a tan layer over top of that to make the eyes looks set back and cover the mouth. I sewed on the material for the brown part and used a glue gun for the face. I used card board for the nose and cover it in tan material as well and glued it on the front so it would protrude. We used a towel with pink ribbons instead of Brutus's white one in honor of breast cancer awareness month.
