A word from Lori, the 'Fort Pitt Bridge' costume creator:
I was looking for something very "Pittsburgh" to make Goblin into this year. Pittsburgh is known as "The City of Bridges," so of course she had to be one of the most famous bridges in Pittsburgh! Coming through the Fort Pitt Tunnel from the south, the Fort Pitt Bridge offers a spectacular view of the city. To make the tunnel, I sewed a white foundation garment (Goblin is white) to attach everything to. Next I sewed a strip of black fabric onto the foundation garment and painted the road stripes. For the bridge, I fed some air tubing through 2 strips of material and pinned it to a chair back to hold shape. With the arches pinned, I braided thread and looped them around to make the bridge cables. I stitched several thin pieces of material to make the lattice of the bridge top and sides. These pieces hold the shape of the bridge once it's on Goblin. After I sewed the bridge to the garment, I sewed on the little cars and printed/laminated the exit signs to hang from the top of the bridge. I will include a couple photos of the costume during different stages of creation.
