A word from Courtney, the 'Maleficent' costume creator:
My 4-year-old daughter, Addison, is infatuated with Maleficent! So when she told me she wanted to be her for Halloween, I knew that no store-bought job would do! The headpiece was made out of paper mache and reinforced with modgepodge. Once dry, the horns were wrapped with jute and then black electrical tape. The rest of the headpiece was wrapped in a velvety black material. For the staff, I simply wrapped a stick from our yard in black electrical tape and then added rings of hot glue for texture and painted the dried hot glue black. I also wrapped some rolled packing paper in electrical tape to create the top of the staff, which hold the sphere (a bouncy ball). A crow purchased from the Dollar Store completes the look. For the outfit I simply layered a black dress from the thrift store over a long-sleeved black shirt and black stretch pants. the cape is made of the same velvety black material as the headpiece.
