A word from Kathleen, the 'Siren and Sailor' costume creator:
We went as a siren from Greek mythology and the Odyssey. They are described as "dangerous yet beautiful creatures, who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the rocky coasts." Naturally, my husband had to go as one of the sailors I had shipwrecked.
My costume took a lot of planning. I bought blonde extensions and had my stylist color them for my hair. I bought a 'tail' skirt on Etsy from CoquetryClothing and had LamourLeAllure from Etsy make me the top, since I wanted something less mermaid/pearl/seashell and more seawood/netting. For my makeup, I took fishnet stocking and pulled them over my face, used blue/green/silver eyeshadows and just painted the pattern over the net. After carefully pulling it off, I was left with the scale type pattern. I ordered black contacts from my optometrist, and was ready to go!
For my shipwrecked sailor, we just bought a norman sailor costume and then took a pair of scissors and pack of fake blood to it. A wound prosthetic kit from Amazon helped with some more realistic looking wounds, and to tie us together we added more netting. His black eye was just black eyeshadow he dabbed on.
We spent the evening on a yacht in Miami and had a blast!
