A word from Mandy, the 'Blackjack Dealer' costume creator:

This is my son Eldon, he's 9 months old. We were trying to think of a non-traditional costume that would allow him to sit and still be cute. We love playing games and my 12 year old son loves blackjack so we thought this idea was perfect. We set up in the driveway and handed out candy as well as treats for the adults who beat the dealer. Everyone loved it. The adults liked playing and getting their own treat.

I used 1 yard of green fabric, 1 yard of black fabric, white paint, paint brush, pencil, a cardboard display board, string, Elmer's spray glue, deck of cards (I didn't use them all), poker chips, highchair and black t-shirt . I bought the hat already made and I also bought the outfit.
I cut off 1 flap of the display board and left the other flap on so that it could hang down over the highchair tray. I made 2 holes on the right and left side top of the display board about an inch apart and ran a string through the top of the holes then secured the string to the side of the highchair (this held my board in place). Once my board was secure I took my green fabric and cut it to fit the top of my display board I then used Elmer's spray glue to cover the display board and then carefully laid my fabric down and smoothed it out. I then used the spray glue and sprayed about half of the green fabric from the front to the middle, I took my black fabric laid it on the top of the green board smoothing it as I went, the rest of the fabric then hung down covering the flap. (The flap of the display board helped the black fabric keep shape). I used another piece of the green fabric on top so I could cover the piece of black that I just laid. I spray glued that down just as I did the first piece. To make the details on the table, I used a bowl and traced it with a pencil to make the half circle and I traced a deck of cards to make the card outlines. My very talented 13 year old daughter then free handed the blackjack 3 to 2 lettering. Once I had all the outlines I went over everything with white paint and painted in the letters and numbers. To finish it off, I put a black t-shirt over the back of the highchair so that the design wouldn't be distracting.
