A word from Kristina, the 'Rainbow Brite' costume creator:
Since this was my daughter Devlyn's first Halloween I wanted to make something special. Looking around for inspiration I started to think back to things I enjoyed as a kid. Since I'm a child of the 80's Rainbow Brite came to mind. So I dug up a few images online and started the process.
I used a dress that I knew fit Devlyn and used that as my makeshift pattern. The fabric I used is a light denim that can move but was durable enough to have things glued to it. All of the embellishments on the dress are made of felt with interfacing behind them for reinforcement. The sleeves were made with a foam like interfacing material that was covered with fabric and sew onto the dress. I had Devlyn wear a onesie under the dress for warmth and sewed leggings onto the onesie to create sleeves and made the cuffs and sewed them onto the leggings.
The boots were made entirely of felt and made to slip over a pair of boots. Since I had accessorized the costume with a Twink doll I thought that Starlite was getting the raw end of the deal so I made a candy bag out of felt to look like him. The hair bow was made by using some hair from an old 80's glam wig and glued onto a barrett.
All in all it was a fun experience making this costume. Devlyn brought a lot of smiles to people's faces wearing it. So all in all it was a win.
