This homemade costume for girls entered our 2016 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Kelly, the 'Rainbow' costume creator:

Daughter, Emma. 5 years old. Emma wanted a rainbow, complete with raindrops & a sun! Completely homemade!
I used pool noodles, 50 yards of tulle, 100 zip ties, and LOTS of time! It's totally worth it, and she loved it!

Hello I absolutely love this and would love to
Recreate for my daughter! Would you mind sharing with me how you kept the noodles arched, and attached the strapes to keep it on her back? Thank you!

Same question how do yo make the arch and what did you use to attach to her shoulders. Super cute!

#16 comment by Kelly Banks August 17, 2018

Sorry! I never knew there were comments on here!! The noodles are connected with zip ties and I put skewers threw a few places for support. I made it with straps like a backpack and there is a chain of zip ties across the bottom back covered with tulle.

Hi wanting to make this for my daughter..how do you keep the noodles bent. Thanks

#18 comment by tricia August 23, 2018

I still dont understand how you used skewers to keep them arched?

#19 comment by Kelly Banks August 24, 2018

I put a zip tie around each noodle, connecting the next one before tightening. I then made a chain of zip tie loops, connected to make the ends go to a line- bending the pool noodles into an arch. To add support, I added a few skewers to connect all the noodles while it was laying flat.

Kelly, What did you use to make the "backpack" straps?

Thanks, Kyla

#21 comment by Kelly October 9, 2018

I cut straps off of a tote bag. I covered the part covering her white shirt with ruffle elastic.

Hi! How did you attach the tulle to the pool noodles?

#23 comment by Kelly Banks October 17, 2018

I tied the tulle to the zip ties that were around edge ends of the noodles conntecting them in an arch. I definitely don't mind answering questions, but I didn't write down instructions or take step-by-step pictures. So some of this is going to sound vague. I just made it, I didn't write down how. Once you start it will fall into place. The hardest part is finding all of the colors of the pool noodles.

Hi Kelly can I ask how you got your clouds to sit in they shape please

#25 comment by Kelly Banks October 22, 2018

They are tied to the zip ties that are around each end of each pool noodle. The zip ties are overlapping to hold them together. My above comments have other instructions.
