A word from Rob, the 'Nurse Joker' costume creator:
When I was thinking of characters that stood out to me, I was immediately reminded of Heath's jarring performance in The Dark Knight. I loved his character overall, but he kept us guessing with all of the masks and costumes he wore throughout the film. His nurse character was just so creepy that it was hard to pass up.
I'm a huge advocate for thrifting my costumes together - I do my best to limit how much I spend and illustrating that good costumes can be simple to put together! So here's a breakdown of my costume:
Wig (from a Halloween store - couldn't find one at thrift, plus like, probably want to be the first owner): $11
Hairspray: $2
Facepaint: $4
Lipstick: $7.25 (people laughed when I told them it was one of the more expensive parts of my costume)
Lab Coat: $3.75
White belt: $1.50
Socks: $2
Everything else: owned
TOTAL: $31.50
I'll be honest - this was my first dive into makeup. I've never used facepaint or lipstick, so trying to make that all come together was interesting. First I did my eyeblack, then the white for my face. followed by the lipstick. I was laughing the whole time because, as I was doing it, I was also sweating from the pressure and sweat/facepaint do no mix...
The other piece of the costume that had to be made was my "Harvey Dent" campaign sticker. That was 100% drawn/colored by me and then I sewed it on to the costume. I was going to pin/glue it, but in the end, felt that sewing it would keep it in place better.
Finally, I decided to spray my hair green. While my wig was on most of the night, I felt it did the character justice!
