A word from Patty, the 'I believe in dragons' costume creator:

I was trying to come up with a stilt costume that would have an illusion to it. This was made believe it or not from a lot of dumpster diving finds! I found some foam in sheets and started snipping it to make it thinner than the 3 inches it came in. Then I went through 20-30 cans of spay adhesive. I found some drywall stilts at a garage sale and bought several pair of crutches to use as framing and front legs. I am almost 60 so I wasn't about to get on the stilts so my daughter wore this costume. the hard part was getting it balances, so that it would not pivot like a sea saw. the 8 ft tail helped that a lot. I started with a boat shape around her. then added traps to hold it up. with the head and neck done the tail came next it is foam with slits cut in it, filled it with batting like for blankets. The feet and legs came next. this is not and easy project it took 6 weeks to build. a lot of mess ups and then came the paint. I used latex. but I soon found that it dried too quickly in front of my fireplace, which caused the whole thing to crack everywhere. I was devastated until.... I used 4 gallons of Elmer's glue over the whole thing to try to seal it. IT WORKED! The eyes are printed on photo paper then bent over and old plastic Easter egg, for the curve.I used wide shinny clear tape for the shine. The front legs are crutches with extensions from PVC pipe. There are fake legs hanging off the body, made from foam batting and panty hose. The whole thing covered with an airy cape (also from fabric from the famous dumpster lol.) I put makeup on her to reflect the dragon, and put hair extensions high on her head. creating a widows peak in the front. We took it to a casino and had a blast! everyone thought she was a rider and that there were 3 people inside. That was my illusion goal! Gasps from everyone that saw it.. I stood back and enjoyed all of the comments. I was a total of 15 plus feet long the head rose up to 12 ft high the tail was 8 ft long. Hope u enjoy it as much as I did making it!
