Koshrakus Costume

The character "Koshrakus" or "Kosh" for short is a character of my own design. I really adore dragons and wanted to take a crack at designing one for myself. His head is built on a resin base that I sculpted out of clay and made a mold of. The eyes and teeth are also cast out of resin and hand painted, the tongue was cast out of silicon and the entire head was lined with black fleece for comfort. Vision is through the tearducts of the head, I made custome hinges for the heas out of resin so that I could get an articulated jaw (jaw opens when mine does). The Mohawk is hand wefted kanekalon (a type of wig hair), the feathers are felt, and the horns are wonderflex (a type of thermoplastic). The body is padded with foam to give a slight animalistic look and is coloured using a combination of airbrushing and dry brushing. The tail is solid foam I carved out, I added a strong wire just to ensure it kept its shape. The feathers are all made out of stiffened felt which I airbrushed to get the desire colour. The wings were in interesting challenge as I wanted something light without being delicate, so I used boning for corsette (sp?) making inplace of the usual wire, the stiffened felt and stretchy nylon which I than airbrushed. For added effect I installed an EL wire on the wings so that they light up. The hands and feet were made similar to the body, foam padding for shape covered in fleece and than Airbrushed where needed. The entire costume is made essentially out of three materials; foam, resin, and fleece. Not sure how long it took to make me as I made it in and off over the course of about 6months, as for the cost I estimate around 500$ though I did have some of the stuff on hand. I love making costumes and it's my dream to one day make them professionally, for now though its just an expensive hobby.
