This homemade costume for adults entered our 2016 Halloween Costume Contest.

A word from Hannah, the 'Land Strider from the Dark Crystal' costume creator:

I am wearing the costume. My dad made it for me this year from scratch for Halloween. He spent about $100 on it. Stilts were made from scrap wood and an old pair of boots. The front arms are a pair of old crutches lengthened to match the height of the stilts. The head was made from 1" foam glued together. It was carved and sanded to the shape of the head. The face details were made from latex caulking squirted on to wax paper, peeled off and attached to the rough foam head. Eyes are glass beads painted on the back side. The horns and whiskers were made from 1/4" vinyl tubing heated with a lighter and stretched to a point. Legs were padded with green foam. Ribs and spine were made from strips of 1" x 1" foam hot glued together and inserted into a extra pocket sewn into the back of the body to give a sense of the underlying skeleton. Head and mane are glued and mounted to an old bicycle helmet. Camel colored fleece and some white fur sewn together to wrap the parts. Finally, he used an air brush for all of the painting.

Congrats on the costume!
I'm trying to do something similar for a street theatre project, and I'm not sure on how to lengthen the crutches... What did you use? Can you give me any pointers?

We used some PVC pipe to lengthen the crutches.
